Day 3 @ Nozawaonsen
What a beautiful day. It feels good to know that I’m cleaning up this place so that others can enjoy it as much as I have been. Just having a handful of workawayers here is a lot of fun and makes the place lively so I can’t even imagine how awesome it would be if all three floors were occupied across all four properties…that would be a party.
Work today was similar to yesterday. We did a lot of laundry washing all the towels for future guests. They looked clean already but maybe not to Japanese standards =P
I was also tasked with keeping the fire alive during the day and I think I did a pretty good job. After work Luke bought lunch for all of us so I ordered an anchovy and green pepper pizza. I don’t like pizza but I think certain people who DO like pizza have influenced me. I still don’t like it, like it but this is the second time I’ve ordered it on my own so maybe it’s growing on me. Take out is really interesting because we ordered it to deliver and when it got here the food was on actual plates, not disposable ones. And it was brought on trays instead of bags. When we were done eating we just had to wash our dishes and put them back on the trays so they could pick them up later. I wanted to go for a run because it was so beautiful out but I had just eaten so I went up to my room to let my phone charge for a few minutes and digest my lunch and I put my head down for just a second and I passed out for three hours. When I woke up there were two new workawayers who had just arrived – a guy from Switzerland and an Italian guy, they’ll be here until February. Since it was Annie and Thomas’s last day here I proposed a family dinner and said I would make Japanese curry for everybody. I headed out to the supermarket and picked up some onions, carrots and potatoes. I also found some pickled shallots and bamboo shoots in chili oil. When I got back to the villa I found a ridiculously large pot to cook for the army. Annie made tempura from a butternut squash and an eggplant, Mackin made a banana nut cake and Winnie made some really different kinds of sushi rolls. Luke, our host brought the wine and we had a really amazing night of eating and talking and it was just such a great, lively environment to be in. I love when there’s life in a house and the kitchen was such a warm place to be in yesterday night. I love hearing different languages and hearing bits of French and Italian and Swiss mixed in with English is like hearing music. Language is such a beautiful thing and I’m so grateful that English is a universal language or I’d be having a really difficult time.
I’m really loving the community here but know that my time is coming to and end. I should start planning the next leg of my trip…
Much love,
Cas
